Translation

Jod.

The enemy hath stretched out his hand
to all her desirable things:
for she hath seen the gentiles enter
into her sanctuary,
of whom thou gavest commandment
that they enter not into thy church.

Caph.

All her people groan:
they seek bread.
They have given all their treasures for food
to refresh the soul.
See, O Lord, and consider,
for I have become vile.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
return to the Lord thy God.

(Lm. 1, 10-11)
