Miserere mei Deus, a 4 (Ps. 50)

Feria quinta In coena Domini ad Matutinum [1585a]

PH123

Text

MIserere mei Deus,
secundum magnam misericordiam tuam.

ET secundum multitudinem, miserationum tuarum
dele iniquitatem meam.

AMplius laua me ab iniquitate mea
et a peccato meo munda me.

Quoniam iniquitatem meam ego cognosco:
et peccatum meum contra me est semper.

TIbi soli peccaui et malum coram te feci
vt iustificeris in sermonibus tuis et vincas cum iudicaris.

Ecce enim in iniquitatibus conceptus sum:
et in peccatis concepit me mater mea.

ECce enim veritatem dilexisti
incerta et occulta sapientiae tuae manifestasti mihi.

Asperges me hyssopo, et mundabor:
lavabis me et super nivem dealbabor.

AUditui meo dabis gaudium et laetitiam
et exultabunt ossa humiliata.

Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis:
et omnes iniquitate meas dele.

COr mundum crea in me Deus
et spiritum rectum innoua in visceribus meis.

Ne projicias me a facie tua:
et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me
.

REdde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui,
et spiritu principali confirma me.

Docebo iniquos vias tuas:
et impii ad te convertentur.

LIbera me de sanguinibus Deus, Deus salutis meae,
et exsultabit lingua mea iustitiam tuam.

Domine, labia mea aperies:
et os meum annuntiabit laudem tuam.

QUoniam si voluisses sacrifitium dedissem vtique
holocaustis non delectaberis.

Sacrificium Deo spiritus contribulatus:
cor contritum et humiliatum, Deus, nos despicies.

BEnigne fac Domine in bona voluntate tua syon,
vt aedificentur muri hyerusalem.

Tunc accetabis sacrificium justitiae, oblationes et holocausta:
tunc imponent super altare tuum vitulos.

Translation

Have mercy on me,
O God in your great mercy.

By your multiple compassions
wipe out my guilt.

Thoroughly wash me from my guilt
and my sin cleanse me.

For I acknowledge my guilt,
and my sin is in front of me always.

Against you only have I sinned, and done what is evil in front of you:
you are justified in your words, sovereign in your judgement.

Here is: I was born in guilt,
and in sin my mother conceived me.

Here is: you love truth:
you show me what is unknown and hidden in your wisdom.

Cleanse me with hyssop, I shall be pure:
wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness:
the bones laid on soil will bound.

Turn away your face from my sins,
and blot out all my guilt.

A clean heart create for me, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit in my entrails.

Cast me not out from your presence,
and your holy spirit take not from me.

Give me back the joy of your salvation,
and confirm in me a spirit of prince.

I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners shall return to you.

Free me from blood, O God, my saving God:
then my tongue will exalt your justice.

O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

If you want sacrifices, I offer you some:
but you are not pleased with holocaust.

The sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit:
a contrite and humbled heart, O God, you will not despise.

In your goodwill, O Lord, do good to Sion
by rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.

Then you will accept due sacrifices, offerings and holocausts:
then bullocks will be put on your altar.
