in vanum laboraverunt
qui edificant eam.
nisi Dominuscustodierit civitatem
qui custodit eam.
Vanum est vobis ante lucem surgere
surgite post quam sederitis
qui manducatis panem doloris.
Cum dederit dilectis suis somnum
ecce haereditas domini filii, merces, fructus ventris.
Sicut sagitte in manu potentis ita filii escussorum.
Beatus vir qui implevit,
Desiderium suum ex ipsis
non confundetur cum loquetur
inimicis suis in porta.
Gloria patri et filio, et spiritui sancto,
Sicut erat et nunc et semper
et in secula seculorum amen.
Lest the Lord build the house, in vain shall
work those who build it.
Lest the Lord keep the city, in vain shall
work [he] who keeps watch over it.
Vain is for you before the light to wake:
wake up after you have rested, [you] who
eat the bread of pain.
For he gave, to the beloved of his, rest,
here [are] the inheritance of the Lord, the
children; rewards, the fruit of the womb.
As arrows in the hand of the mighty, so the
children of them [that have been] shaken.
Blessed [is] the man who filled the quiver
of his with them; not shall he be
confounded when he shall speak to his
enemies at the gate.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son:
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and
ever shall be: world without end. Amen.
